It feels good to finish up some quilts I started months ago. This is another deep dark navy blue quilt. This particular one has yellow pinwheels featured on a background of beautiful blue fabrics. It's 31 1/2" square so it could be a mini quilt wall hanging, a table topper or a baby quilt. The backing is a single piece of dark navy blue. The quilting was free motion quilted on a home machine. There are some pebbles there in the quilting ... one of my favorite patterns for FMQ but very very time consuming. They add such a wonderful texture to the quilt. It's difficult to take photos of dark fabrics but I'm getting better at it I think. On Etsy at www.etsy.com/shop/SimplyHandmadeinNC.

I feel like I'm getting lots of stuff done lately ... a good feeling. Here's another mini quilt, art quilt, wall hanging or even table topper. I'm still in my dark blue phase. The center of this one (I'm calling it a trellis) was created with the same method used to make the lizard quilt from a few weeks ago (previous post). In this case though, rather than all 1.5 inch squares placed on fusible, it was created with square and rectangle pieces placed on the fusible in a trellis-like design. Once fused to the fusible, it is stitched along the cut lines of the fabric pieces. The center of the quilt (the trellis) was quilted in the QAYG method (Quilt As You Go) with a walking foot following the diagonal lines of the trellis. The border was then added and free motion quilted in a simple and unique pattern. The back has corner pockets so it's ready to hang. Soon to be for sale on Etsy at www.etsy.com/shop/SimplyHandmadeinNC. Thanks!
Just finished! Modern design in brilliant yellows and oranges with deep rich brown batiks. 17" wide x29" high. Many raw edge pieces of fabric were placed to create this unique design and then it was covered with tulle before being quilted with freeform wavy lines. It can be hung with either the yellow or brown at the top. Ready to hang with back pockets. On Etsy now at www.etsy.com/shop/simplyhandmadeinnc.
This pixellated lizard or gecko was a new technique for me. Using a fusible gridded web, I laid out the design for the lizard and the light background with 1.5" squares of fabric. It started out way bigger than the result you see here. This is a great way to piece small pieces of fabric. After stitching, each pixel ended up at just under an inch. To complete this wall quilt, I've used three quilting techniques ... free motion quilting, walking foot quilting and long arm quilting. The binding is the last thing to do.
I'm working on a few projects for the Asheville Quilt Guild show coming up on Friday Sept. 29, Sat. Sept. 30 and Sun. Oct. 1, 2017 at the WNC Ag Center on Airport Road. It's a great show with lots of beautiful quilts plus vendors with more fabric and quilting supplies! |
