New Machine and Pink Stars Quilt

1/14/2017

I am so pleased and amazed by my new sewing machine ... a Juki TL-2000Qi.  The speed is incredible.  The wavy line quilting on this Pink Star quilt (shown below) took a lot less time than it ordinarily would have on another domestic home machine.  I marked the lines and used a walking foot to stitch the quilting.  The 2000 (and 2010) only does straight stiches but it does them very very well.  Speed is the name of the game (same as for computers and smartphones).  I'm getting ready to finish the binding on this quilt and then it will be listed on my Etsy shop at SimplyHandmadeinNC.  Thanks!

I highly recommend the Juki TL-2000Qi or TL-2010Qi.  The extension table is huge, it has a thread cutter, a needle up/down button, almost 9" of throat space, and you can regulate the pressure of the presser foot.  Did I mention it's very fast?

Almost Done ... Art Quilt Using Drunkard's Path Circles

1/1/2017

I'm just about finished with this new art quilt in blues, purples and greens.  This is one of my first quilts with the Drunkard's Path block.  Stitching curves was not happening as easy or as "perfect" as I would like.  I found a CurveMaster presser foot online that has made a big difference. Using that foot makes it possible to stitch the curve without pinning or notching.  Squaring up the quarter circles is essential so the points and edges of the circle match up.  A great tip online about squaring and cutting the quarter circles to the exact right size was a huge help for me.  (Unfortunately, I can't locate that site again but will add the link when I do find it.  It involves using your ruler to line up the stitch lines, cutting and then flipping to cut it square.) This mini quilt has Kaffe Fassett fabrics combined with other vibrant blues, purples and greens.  It's being quilted with a walking foot using Sulky 30 wt variegated thread.  Binding is next and then it's done!  Finished size approx. 22x22.

Thanks!  Best wishes for a great 2017!
